I’m with you. King was a staple for me as an angsty teen, but most of his novels are exponentially too long. The first book of his I enjoyed after decades of disappointment was Mr. Mercedes, and mainly because, lo and behold, it actually has a tight plot! He does have a few gems in his opus, to be fair, but he’s very hit and miss.
